Virginia Tech Stream Team

Our Mission

We are a community of ecologists passionate about freshwater, soils, and their biota. Our mission is to create an inclusive environment that promotes scientific exchange and professional development across our sub-disciplines and systems. Through student-oriented shared mentorship and collaboration, we strive to transcend traditional academic boundaries to address fundamental and applied ecological challenges.

Our Commitment to Diversity,
Equity, and Inclusion

Stream Team is a community formed through shared mentorship, collaboration, and conversation that welcomes people across career stages and research interests. We recognize diversity, equity, and inclusion in science as an integral part of research, education, outreach, and mentoring. We are committed to making Stream Team a more inclusive and equitable space for people across all aspects and intersections of their identities, including (but not limited to) race, ethnicity, age, sex, gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation, physical abilities, neurodiversity, religious affiliation, and socioeconomic background. We recognize that members of these identity groups are not a monolith, that each individual is the culmination of multiple identities, and that each person makes valuable contributions to Stream Team. We are particularly committed to supporting scientists with identities that have frequently been excluded from and underrepresented in ecology.
